Getting started
What is Intelligent Receipt?
A mobile app for Australians that captures receipts and invoices, reads them with AI, and organises them for your tax return and BAS. It tracks GST, work-related use, bills and car trips, and produces reports you can share with your tax agent.
Which phones does it work on?
Intelligent Receipt is being released for Android phones on Google Play and for iPhone on the App Store. Your receipts are stored in your account, so you can switch phones without losing anything.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You sign in with Google, Apple or an email address so your receipts are backed up and available on any device you sign in to.
Is there a version for my computer?
A web version for managing receipts on a computer is planned. In the meantime you can export everything from the app as CSV, PDF or a ZIP backup.
Capturing receipts
How does the AI read my receipts?
When you scan or import a receipt, the photo or PDF is sent securely to our server, which uses an AI model to read the shop, date, amounts, GST, ABN, line items and due date. It usually takes 5 to 15 seconds. You always see and can correct the result before it counts.
How accurate is it?
Very accurate on clear receipts and PDF invoices. Faded, crumpled or handwritten receipts can be harder, so the app adds review notes when something looks unusual — for example totals that do not add up, a missing ABN or a possible duplicate — and asks you to check before saving.
Can I forward email receipts?
Yes, on Tax Pro. You get a personal address such as yourname.ab12c@in.superiortech.com.au. Forward a receipt email or a PDF invoice and it becomes a receipt in the app within seconds. You can pause the address or generate a new one at any time.
Can I add a receipt without a photo?
Yes. Describe it by voice or text — 'parking at Wilson, $18, client meeting' — or fill in the form manually. Manual entries never count towards the free AI scan limit; voice and typed descriptions are read by the AI, so they count as a scan.
What about receipts in other currencies?
A receipt in US dollars, euros, yen or another currency keeps its original amount and is converted to Australian dollars at the European Central Bank reference rate for the receipt date. If your bank charged a different amount, type in the AUD amount instead. Totals and reports always use AUD.
What if a receipt is for both work and personal use?
Choose Mixed and set the work percentage, or split the receipt into parts with their own category and percentage. Only the work-related share counts towards your deductions and claimable GST.
Tax and the ATO
Does the ATO accept photos of receipts?
Yes. The ATO accepts digital copies of receipts and invoices, provided they are a true and clear copy of the original. Keep the record for five years from the date you lodge your tax return. See how long to keep receipts.
How does the tax return report work?
It groups your deductions by the ATO's work-related deduction items, D1 to D10, for each financial year (1 July to 30 June). Categories linked to an ATO item are filed automatically; the rest can be assigned with one tap. You can share it as a PDF or CSV.
Which ATO items can I track?
D1 car, D2 travel, D3 clothing and laundry, D4 self-education, D5 other work-related expenses, D6 low-value pool, D7 interest, D8 dividends, D9 gifts and donations, and D10 cost of managing tax affairs.
Does it work out my car expenses?
If you use the cents-per-kilometre method, yes: log your work trips and the app totals the kilometres for the year, applies the 5,000 km cap and values them at the cents-per-km rate. See car expenses: cents per kilometre.
Can I use it for my BAS?
Yes. The quarterly report shows G11 non-capital purchases and 1B GST on purchases from your receipts, with totals by category. Your sales figures come from your sales records. See GST and BAS for sole traders.
Is Intelligent Receipt tax advice?
No. It organises your records and estimates what may be deductible based on the category and work-use percentage you choose. Tax rules depend on your circumstances, so check with a registered tax agent or the ATO.
Plans and billing
What do I get for free?
Unlimited manual entries, storage, bills, reminders, insights, receipt groups, the tax return and BAS views, CSV export and full backup, plus 10 AI scans a month.
What does Tax Pro add?
Unlimited AI scans (fair use 500 a month), your own email address for receipts, tax return and BAS report PDFs, Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB export files, and ZIP exports with every receipt image.
How much is it?
Tax Pro costs A$39.99 a year or A$4.99 a month. The EOFY Pass is a one-off A$19.99 for 90 days of Tax Pro. Prices include GST. See pricing.

Cancel in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions) or in your iPhone's App Store subscriptions. You keep Tax Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds follow Google's and Apple's refund policies.
What happens to my receipts if I stop paying?
Nothing is lost. Your account returns to Free and you keep every receipt, photo and report, and can export them at any time.
Privacy and security
Where is my data stored?
In Amazon Web Services data centres in Sydney, Australia. Connections use HTTPS and receipt files are encrypted at rest.
Who can see my receipts?
Only you. Our support team will only look at a specific receipt if you ask us to. We never sell your data and there are no ads in the app.
Is my data used to train AI?
No. Receipt images and text are sent to our AI provider only to read that receipt; under its commercial terms it does not use them to train its models.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings, Delete account, then type DELETE to confirm. Everything is removed — receipts, photos, PDFs, reports and your sign-in. You can also email us. See delete your account.
Can I download all my data?
Yes, on any plan. Settings, Backup & export creates a ZIP file with every receipt, photo and PDF you have stored.
